Mommies at the Q Unite

This was a big week for Max and Mommy.  Max started school and I went back to work on Wednesday.  I did ok on my first day back.  I managed to hold myself together until I got back in the car after dropping Max off; Then the tears started.  But all of the mommies in my department united.  One by one, they stopped by my cube to give a kind word.  Most of them said, "It is ok to cry, you wouldn't be a mom if you didn't!"  That made me feel so much better.  Plus the rest of the week people would stop by to see if I had checked on Max through the school's parents website.  I am able to see his notes for the day and view a live video while he naps.  It really helped to be able to check on him as I wanted.

Max did great at school.  I know many of you are probably giggling because I am referring to daycare as school, but this really is a school.  They are a Montessori school that goes from birth through third grade. Many children attend the elementary school, which is in a separate wing.  But, I digress...  Max loves school!  His teachers say that he is doing great.  Miss Tricia told me that he didn't even fuss.  Apparently, he is Mr. Popularity (just like Daddy)!  He is also progressing toward milestone much more quickly than I expected.  Just in the past three days I notice a difference in his strength and activity.

He must really love playing at school, too.  He is playing so hard that he is sleeping great at night.  On Thursday night he slept from 8:30pm until 5:30am!  YAY! Friday he slept a lot at school and the teachers noted that he might be going through a growth spurt.  Which I am agreeing with since he is experiencing a weird eating and sleeping schedule today.

It is hard to believe that Max will be 3 months old next week.  He is playing and becoming much more social.  He loves to smile (until I get the camera out).  He especially loves to smile at the picture of himself over his changing table.  Here are a couple of videos of him playing from this morning.  The first is of him playing on his Boppy.  The other is of him talking to himself in the play gym mirror.  Enjoy!

Big Weekend

This weekend was a big one for Max.  Momo and Papa came down for a visit.  Max and I spent the day with them on Saturday.  Then, Max spent the evening with Aunt Julie, Uncle Aaron, Tru, Will, Momo and Papa while Daddy and I went out on a date.  It was the first time that we left Max since he was born.  Of course, all through dinner Ron and I wondered what Max was doing.  Well we found out that he was giving Aunt Julie and Momo quite a difficult time.  As I have mentioned before, Max is a bit of a Mama's Boy (which I love).  However, that makes it a little difficult when I am not around.  While he was fussy most of the time we were gone at dinner, he was happy and smiley as soon as I got to the Mathena house.

Sunday was a very special day for Max.  He was baptized.  Ron and I worried that he would spit up or scream during the ceremony, but instead he slept the whole time.  Here are some pictures.

Goodbye Tiny Clothes

This weekend was both exciting and sad.  Max finally reached the point where he has outgrown his 0-3 month clothes.  As I packed them away, I was sad because they were all so cute (and seems so tiny now).  It is nice to know that he is growing so big so quickly.  I certainly didn't expect Max to be moving into 3-6 month clothes the same week as we celebrated his 2 month birthday!  However, as I unpacked the 3-6 month clothes, I realized that most were short sleeved because we were not expecting him to move into that size until late March (if he would have been born on time).  So much to Mommy's delight (and Daddy's annoyance) a shopping trip was necessary.  Luckily many stores were having clearace sales as they get ready to move the spring inventory in.  So, I got some great deals on winter baby clothes and Max got a cute new wardrobe!

Here are some pictures of him in his first 3-6 month outfit, one of the few long sleeved outfits we already had thanks to Max's friend Joel (and his mommy and daddy, Cathy & Frank).

Hi Mom!

What's up?

Silly like Daddy

I'm not sure about this

Mommy's Super Star

Today Max was a Super Star!  After a long day of play yesterday, he slept 7 1/2 hours last night.  He also took a nap in the middle of his tummy time!

Tummy Time is hard work

Asleep on my bink

Today he had his 2 month well check.  Dr. Slaymaker told us that Max is doing great!  This was fabulous news.  He is now 11lbs 14oz and 23 1/4 inches.  That puts him in about the 50th percentile for 2 month olds.  However, the nurse told us that if Max would have been born on his due date those numbers would have placed him in the 96th percentile!  YIKES!

As many of you know, I am currently working on clinical trials for infant vaccines.  So, I am well aware of the vaccines needed at the different ages and their importance.  However, as a mom I still thought twice about giving him the vaccines on the recommended schedule. After some deliberation (and some brushing up on vaccine literature) we decided to follow the recommendations.  Max did great!  He received 3 shots and one oral vaccine.  He yelled at the nurse a little bit, but did not cry.  He was a champ!  Afterwards he slept most of the afternoon.

2 Months Old!

Max is 2 months old today.  Over the past week he has been more alert during the day and eating more.  He has also been sleeping 5-7 hours at a time during the night.  YAY!!

The past couple of days we have been hunkered down preparing for a blizzard.  During this time, we have enjoyed pajama days.  We also introduced Max to Sophie...Up Close!  Sophie has been very interested in Max and also very protective.  She usually lays near him.  At night she will alert me when he cries, like I don't hear him LOL!  Then during his night feed, she lays at my feet making sure he is ok.  However, when we placed Max on Sophie yesterday she looked at us like "I am not supposed to touch him".  She did a great job of not licking him.  I wish I could say the same for Max.  As soon as I moved my hand away, he placed his open mouth on Sophie's fur.  Yuck!  Ron and I are sure they will be fast friends very soon.

With Max growing so quickly, I have been trying to place him in many of his 0-3month outfits as they will not fit him much longer.  Today, I placed him in the Valentine's Day outfit I bought before he was born, and it was a good thing I did!  It was almost to small.  Here are some pictures.  No worries, I bought him a new Valentine's Day outfit this weekend so he will have one that fits.

Hot Stuff!

Mom...I am too hot for this!
